Grocery supermarketing in Australia – an independent perspective
Metcash Limited (Metcash) is a leading & marketing distribution company in the food & other fast moving consumer goods categories. It has three business pillars – IGA Distribution, Campbells Cash & Carry and Australian Liquor Marketers. Metcash is currently one of the best-performing stocks on the Australian market, a status that vindicates strategies put in place by the management since Metro Cash and Carry South Africa acquired control of the business in 1998.
Mr Andrew Reitzer has 28 years experience in the retail/wholesale industry. Having completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree followed by an MBA, Andrew joined Metro Cash & Carry in 1970 when it first established the Lucky 7 banner, similar to the IGA banner. He has held a number of positions at Metro Cash & Carry, including Group Operations Director, heading operations in Russia and Israel, marketing Director, IT Director and managing various operating divisions.
Andrew’s presentation will provide an overview of the Australian Grocery Supermarketing Industry, including commentary on some of the latest trends, insights into what the consumer wants and why Independents will win in a highly concentrated market.
